Packing & Moving Tips

Packing is a very important part of your move. The way you pack your belongings for transport will affect both the condition in which they arrive as well as the time it will take to complete your move.

General rules for packing are as follows:

·        Try to put heavier items in smaller boxes. Do not over or under pack boxes. If you over pack, the box may split. Under packing boxes may result in the top of the box denting or caving in, making it difficult to stack during transport.

·        Try to use newer or sturdier boxes. Make sure breakables are packed in something more substantial.

·        Use plenty of packing materials - packing paper, peanuts or bubble wrap. Make sure you place a generous layer of materials at the bottom of the box containing fragile items.

The following items are more commonly asked about:

·        Mirrors

·        Pictures

·        Glass tops to furniture

These items may be crated, covered in bubble wrap or placed in picture/mirror cartons.

·        China

Wrap china and all fragile items in paper individually. Large plates and heavy pieces should be placed on their edge and in the bottom of the box. Cups and saucers should be toward the top, while plates and dishes should be in vertical positions with plenty of paper in between them.

·        CDs & Records

Put these in smaller boxes. Records should be packed on end side by side.

* These suggestions apply as general guidelines. If you have any further questions, please call us or send an e-mail.
